Naturally, this isn't a conclusive list; these are just some of the most common criteria for defining Done.

Important note

The definition of Done is an absolute. Work is either done or it isn't. There can be no but it meets three of the four criteria for done arguments. If an item cannot be classed as Done, then it must be placed back in the Product Backlog for further consideration.

The Definition of Done may be revised during the Sprint Retrospective event (Chapter 4, Scrum Events, in the Starting the Sprint with Sprint Planning Section). For instance, after several Sprints, you may discover that the current definition is not fit for purpose and needs to be adapted. This is not uncommon and is perfectly in line with the Scrum pillars of continuous transparency, inspection, and adaptation. It helps the Scrum Team focus on creating high-value, high-quality Increments.
